Everything you need to know about our workplace first aid training

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our first aid training, courses, and workplace requirements.

Course duration depends on the qualification:

• Emergency First Aid at Work — 1 day (approx. 6 hours)
• First Aid at Work — 3 days
• Annual refresher — half day

Exact timings will be confirmed at booking.

A standard meeting or training room is usually sufficient, provided there is enough space for both seated learning and practical exercises.

For a group of up to 12 participants, the room should:

• Seat all participants comfortably
• Provide clear floor space for CPR practice
• Allow safe movement around training equipment

As a guide, the space should comfortably accommodate two CPR manikins laid on the floor with room for participants to kneel beside them.

Recommended minimum size: approximately 6 m × 5 m (20 ft × 16 ft) or similar.

If space is limited, participants can rotate through practical sessions.

If you are unsure whether your room is suitable, we are happy to advise in advance — simply provide room dimensions or photos.

Yes. All courses are delivered in line with current UK first aid guidelines and are accredited through recognised awarding bodies.

Workplace qualifications are issued by:

• Qualsafe Awards
• NUCO Training

This ensures certification is nationally recognised and compliant with workplace requirements.

Certificates are issued by the relevant accredited awarding body following successful completion of the course.

Certificates are normally sent by post within approximately two weeks of course completion.

Most workplace first aid certificates are valid for three years from the date of issue.

However, it is strongly recommended that first aiders complete annual refresher training to maintain confidence, competence and muscle memory, as practical emergency skills can fade over time if not regularly practised.

Under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, UK employers must provide appropriate first aid provision. Requirements depend on the size of the organisation, nature of work and level of risk.

This depends on your workplace risk level and number of employees. We can advise on the most appropriate course for your organisation.

This depends on workforce size, workplace risks, shift patterns and site layout. Employers should carry out a first aid needs assessment.

As a general guide based on HSE recommendations:

Low-risk workplaces (e.g. offices, shops)
• Fewer than 25 employees — at least 1 trained first aider
• 25–50 employees — at least 1 first aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work
• Over 50 employees — at least 1 fully trained First Aid at Work (FAW) first aider per 100 employees

Higher-risk workplaces (e.g. manufacturing, construction)
• Fewer than 5 employees — at least 1 trained first aider
• 5–50 employees — at least 1 fully trained First Aid at Work first aider
• Over 50 employees — at least 1 FAW first aider per 50 employees

Additional cover may be required for multiple floors, remote areas, lone workers, or shift work.
